Currently my setup, also built on a budget:
Intel Q8200 on Gigabyte EP43-UD3L (only supports DDR2)
4x1GB DDR2 for a total of for GB at 800Mhz PC2-6400
MSI HD 7770 1GB
500GB SATA

Objective: I am seeking upgrades to play COD: Ghosts. Current system requirements as for HD 5870 or better. As far as I've researched the 5870 > 7770. I've been informed that my Q8200 is adequate for the time being and I should focus on improving my RAM and GPU instead. My budget is ~250$ for upgrades.

Option 1:
Currently recommended to me is the MSI Twin Frozr R7850 2GB as the GPU upgrade. $150
2 Kits of 2x2GB DDR2 800Mhz is $60. Double that to 8GB and that is 120$ 1066Mhz is 80$ a kit and would be $160
Total= 270$ (310$ for 1066)

Option 2:
FX-6300 120$
MSI ATX Mobo 75$
2x4GB DDR3 70$
Total= 265$

Seeking your opinion as to my options: Which direction should I go? Is there a tertiary option? Opinions, please.

I would try to overclock that q8200 to about 3.0ghz.Mine in this rig i'm working on right now could do that on about stock volts.Read something about that.
For a nice cooler you could look at the next one,
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/zalman-cpu-cooler-cnps11xperforma
picked this one because it's a nice cooler which is a 154mm high not to loud and good cooling capabilities and because of that 154mm it probably fits in most cases.

I would also try it with 4gb's of ram first before upgrading.Look for good second hand ram otherwise.

I took a quick peek and with this/my machine,although single player,i didn't go past 3 gb's of ram used on BF3 with my q8200@3ghz and 2xhd 5830.I also got over 60fps the whole time.It's where you go of an airflight carrier the first time,i don't know how challenging that is.Most of the time i'm above 50fps from what i remember.Settings are mostly high with a few things on ultra.

Edit:These fps are on 1366x768 res.It's a tv.but still got over 50 fps on ultra with the sapphire version of that card although on this res.
Since the 7870Xt has 2gb of vram instead of 1gb,it took less normal ram to run the game,it took 2.5gb's of that.

The next gpu is a very good one for the price so you coold take a look at that one,
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/powercolor-video-card-ax78702gbd52dhppv3e ~$140
another,but way more expensive with probably kind of equal results.in a lot of games,
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-r9270xgaming2g ~$205
Look for reviews yourself.

You're not stating anything about your power supply so maybe that needs an upgrade to.Keep that in mind when you pick a gpu.
