Hey guys, I've ran into a bit of a problem. While playing a not very intensive game.

After this blue screen, my computer will now not boot up. When I turn my computer on, it will go past the POST screen and then give me a "Windows Error Recovery" message, saying "Windows failed to start. A Recent hardware or software change might be the cause" (this is not the case as there is nothing new). I get two options, "Launch Startup Repair" or "Start Windows Normally". Initially, the first option would bring up a windows like box saying it was searching for errors or problems. Couple seconds into that, It would then just go to the same blue screen. Now,when I select either of the two, it just gives me blue screen message with a STOP: 0x0000009C (0x00000000000000002, 0xFFFFF880009F1B30, 0X00000000B2000000, 0X00000000000000019).
MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION

I can't boot in any of the safe mode options, I've tried booting from the windows disc and I've tried reverting all the bios options to their defaults with no luck. I have also tried taking out the GFX, RAM, secondary HD and trying without those and I still get the same error.

So in my mind its either the HD or the motherboard?

Some extra information that may or may not be useful: I can get into the bios, and using the bios graphical interface there is an option to browse the HD's to flash the bios. I have browsed through this and I can see the files and folders there on both HD's so this make me think its not a HD issue as I can see them there.

Does anyone have any thoughts here? Would be greatly appreciative.

My System;
CPU: Intel i5 2500k
Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V/GEN3
Graphics: MSI GTX580 Twin Frozr
RAM: 2x4Gb Mushkin Copperhead Blackline
PSU: Corsair 850w
HD: Crucial 64GB SSD

Thanks.

I had a motherboard overhear and fry on me during heavy gaming a few months ago, I've fried both hard drives and motherboards in my experience, when you mess the hard drive it won't even attempt to load windows, you just get "No boot device" errors.

When I fried my motherboard it would try to boot windows then freeze, and i could access bios but couldn't get into anything without it freezing or restarting.

So sounds like motherboard, just replace it and install more fans in your case to keep the board at a lower temp in the future.

If there's no spaces, it might be worth investing in a cooling case.

Thanks for the reply. Since i made this thread I have managed to try the HD in another computer and it worked fine. So it's looking more and more like the Motherboard as you said. This is potentially the second motherboard that has broken in 2 years on this computer.

I will post updates if anything else changes within the coming days.

I was doing nothing when suddenly the bsod started to came up. I have win7, mobo is asus m2n-vm hdmi. I have the same problem, th win wont boot and when it tries to fix itself then the pc throws another bsod and restarts. I have tried win xp on different HDD and i managed to get in safe mode and eventually normal boot. So pc components seem fine. But with win 7 i cant get to safe mode because it wont offer me that. HDD with win 7 is new and win 7 isn't faulty because i got in desktop once and then again short time after that bsod :(. I even removed cd-rom, gpu and tried intregated gpu, still nothing. I get this Stop 0x000...3B (....). Help plz!

Hi there
I had the exact same problem, pc kept going back to the "Windows recovery page" and no matter what option of the two you selected the pc kept reverting back to this page.

I managed to FIX my problem WITHOUT reinstalling windows 7....took me a while but figured it out, it was quite long and drawn out including cmd prompt and going through the back end but now my pc is working 100%.
My PC may have given me problems because I have 2 built in HDD's of it could be from changing the amount of Processors to 1 in the msconfig (So I could play Scarface) - leaning towards the second.....is this by any chance what happened to you? Interested to know?
If you still need help with fixing your pc or any person has the same issue please respond to this post and I will set aside time to document everything I did and post it here...cheers.

The reason only 3.5GB ram is available is because you have a 32 bit operating system. You'll have to upgradt to a 64 bit operating system, and if you're having this same problem where you can access BIOS but can't get into windows, First thing is to try a fresh install of windows but don't format the drive so you can keep your files, If you can't get windows to install it's the boot sector on the hard drive.

Even though you can see the files on the hard drive doesn't mean the boot sector is okay. Could be a bad sector

I'm sorry, I though I responded to this. I'll post my answer for future reference for anyone else having a similar problem.

The problem was with the CPU, it basically died and I replaced it and all is fine now.
