I am trying to install windows 8.1 on Hitachi drive and windows 7 on Kingston hard drive. It was working fine until 8.1 install.

Solution
I'm having an issue as well. I had Win 8 Pro & Win 7 Pro on two different 256 GB SSD drives in my laptop.
Unfortunately, I was using the Win 7 boot loader.
When I did the 8.1 update, it switched to the 8.1 boot loader and I can't boot into Win 7 and startup repair isn't able to fix it.
I wondered if there was a way to fix the boot loader on the Win 7 drive and keep using the 8.1 boot loader to get it running again? Because if I reinstall Win 7 I'll end up with the Win 7 boot loader again.

Surprisingly, this fix was easier than I thought.
I turned on view hidden files in Win 8.1 Pro on the C:\ drive.

Actually this has given me the choice between either boot loader and worked quite well ever since.
As supported by Microsoft usually involves reinstalling or wasting hours on repairs that usually don't work and just add to the frustration.
If it didn't work following their protocols then a quick hack fix beats the heck out of troubling myself for hit or miss research every time I turn around.
