Hello everybody :)
I recently assembled my new build. i have i5-4670k with an asus z87-plus mobo. The thing i am worried about is that when i run prime95 for 2-3 mins my temperatures are about 80C measured with RealTemp 3.70 ... i am using a cooler master hyper 101i air cooler and my temp on idle are about 37-39C. I am on stock core clock .. I also have one 140mm intake fan-front side one 120mm intake fan-top side and 120mm exhaust fan-back side.. is there anything i should be worry about and what do you suggest ?
Thank you !

First, check your VCore while running the stress test.
If you are running at stock clocks, the VCore shouldn´t be that much over 1.1V ish.

Also, you could try to reseat your cooler and reapply the thermal paste.

Thank you for the fast reply
i ran the test again i was using cpu-z to monitor the core voltage.. it went up to 1.051 V

That sounds normal. You temps however are not.
I mean, I don´t know your CPU cooler but it should at least outperform the stock Intel cooler which it obviously doesn´t.

So, I would recommend reseating the cooler and reapplying the thermal paste. Also, you got a top fan as intake, right? I´d generally set the top fan as exhaust.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103074 that is the cooler i use ... its cheap but i saw it has 8000 positive comments thats why bought it ... I was hoping not to change the thermal paste cuz i am a bit afraid of doing it... i`ve never done it before ...

Well, ok...the right answer now would be: Check out youtube, there are lots of guides on there how to properly clean it and what kind of alcohol to use.

My personal answer (for which I am propably getting crucified) is: Just take a soft tissue of some sorts and clean off the thermal paste until the CPU looks clean enough.

I used isopropyl alcohol to clean it off, a big bottle of it that i found in cvs (any pharmacy probably, in the first aid section, i think i picked the 90% one). After that it's just rubbing with a cloth that won't leave any fibers behind (my dad donated an extra cloth of the type he uses to clean his glasses). Just try and make sure that you don't drop any in the socket while you are wiping off, or it might be a pain to get out. And cleaning the cooler was pretty much just rubbing the plate at the bottom till I got most everything out.

Reseating that cooler is probably a good idea. The type of thermal paste you use CAN make a difference. Though not always a huge one. Keep in mind also that using too little (or too much) paste can also impact temperatures. Although that cooler has 8,000+ reviews it doesn't mean it's good for this CPU. The Haswell chips are known to be hot apparently. And a $15 heatsink, although better than stock, may not be sufficient. You want to look at what other folks get for temps with your same CPU and that cooler to compare.

I just OC'd my i5-4670K to 4.7GHz @ 1.255V using my Antec Kuhler H20 620 All In One Liquid Cooler and I hit 77C while running Intel Burn Test. So you should EASILY be able to get better cooling for your CPU at stock settings. Lots of room for improvement.

Obviously your air cooler and my AIO are not comparable. I'm just giving you my example to show you that better cooling is available for this CPU.

can you pls tell me what are your temps stock clock under load ? i was also thinking that the thermal paste might be the problem cuz i used the one that was given me with the cooler and it might be junk ... i was also looking at the cooler master seidon 120v - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103195 .. do you think that this cooler can do the job or its better to go for an air cooler at the same price range like the CPU Cooler NH-L9i Low Profile for example ?
thank you ! :)
