system crash after ram installation

installed 4gb ram hp 2p-1113w computer, system desktop began crashing within a minute or so and now it will not reboot, except for running windows start up continuously.

HPs can be very particular about what DRAM they will use, they have been known to use proprietary DRAM (and also HDs) to try and get people to come back to them for upgrades at inflated prices, Compaq has done this in the past as has Dell
