I was going to go for the 7950 but the good ones are close to $300 and I don't think it's worth $300. My card is still in shipping, but what are some good coolers under $50 that I can use to overclock the card to 7950 or a little under the 7950 levels?

Also how will overclocking a video card effect it's lifespan? I got the accidental warranty through NewEgg but it's only the one year.

There are a few that will fit. The problem is all of the coolers designed for the "Tahiti" cards have the contact about 2/3's the way up the cooler as the 7950/7970's have their GPU's positioned more towards the front of the card. The myst uses a 7870 PCB and a Tahiti GPU sitting directly in the middle of the card. This results in these...

LOL Google the card. It has about the worst cooler I've ever seen. I'd be suppressed if it didn't overheat on stock speeds!

He could stick the thing in his freezer and run a cable to his psu.

Also, I agree on the 660.

What are you talking about lol ? Mine has been absolutely zero hassle for me and it has been OC'd to 1.2Ghz the whole time I have owned it. Idles at 28c maxes at about 70c. Kind of loud yes but a hassle no, plus a myst crushes a regular 660. A 660Ti is more of a fair fight. Leamon It honestly sounds like you know nothing about this GPU.

They still function perfectly fine but look funny in my opinion. The biggest thing you can do to get more cooling out of that card is to replace the stock thermal paste with a high performance paste and set up a custom fan profile. Good case airflow is always key. Here are a few coolers I know of that work.

Thank you for the more detailed helpful reply lol. If I for whatever reason don't like the other coolers, isn't it possible to go and mod my own fan onto it and stuff? Also would my Arctic Silver 5 be good? I have some left over from the tube for my CPU. If possible to mod a cooler of my own, I have a few 120mm fans lying around my house and a few old cpu heat sinks like the stock one for my fx-6300, my hp one and others as well.

AS5 is what I used on mine. My idle temps dropped 8c with 25% fan speed. My max temps dropped 10c to 70c max @ 75% fan speed. NO I would not recommend fashioning your own heatsink. The fit specifically to the GPU it's self and direct air over the card in a specific way to cool other components on the card. You can probably pull the metal cover leaving the heatsink on and just affix some fans to that. I would rock it stock for now and if you cant get temps to a decent level after the new paste and fan profile (which you should, 70c for a GPU is actually relatively cool) I would invest in the accelero Hybrid liquid loop cooler, that thing is worth the money. Just remember when re tightening the heatsink to the card DO NOT over tighten the 4 screws. When they stop turning give them a tiny nudge and stop.

I deleted it. I decided to refund the 7870 and I'm waiting until next week to get the ASUS 29 280x Direct CU II top :)

They are the same architecture however the speed is a bit different in gaming. The 280s are gonna have better 4k support in the future, the temperatures on them run higher but the cards are more durable and they're cheaper for better quality. the asus r9 280x direct cu ii top out performs the 7970 clocked at the same speeds
