I have made a bootable ubuntu OS cd but it directly boots in to ubuntu setup without pressing a key

during the process of ubuntu installation it requires a restart but at restart it again goes to start of ubuntu installation

are you using a wireless or wired usb keyboard. most wireless keyboard turn on after your in the os. some have issues letting you into the bios. most times you have to use a wired keyboard. at boot go into your bios change the boot order. also check that the keyboard num lock light is one..showing that your keyboard has power. if this is a new build make sure the mb has the newest bios and the usb ports are set right.

If you received a time to reboot message your installation was complete. All you should have needed to do was remove the disk and restart to run Ubuntu. If not please tell us what windows are you sharing with? As to the key board not working, look for a setting for it in the bios, if you don't find one try resetting the BIOS to default.
