Asus Maximus VI Hero/i5 4670k w/ stock cooler - I just completed my build. The first 5 or so boots while trying to install the OS on my SSD, I was receiving "CPU over temperature" warnings on startup. I checked the temp in BIOS and it was idling at 88*C.... I turned the computer off, waited about 10min and restarted. This happened a couple of times. Eventually I was able to complete my OS install. I've installed drivers along with RealTemp so I can monitor. I chalked up the earlier high temps to the stock thermal not being heated/spread yet. I even removed the heatsink/fan and re-seated, even though I was positive I did it correctly the first time. I ran the Windows Experience Index and hit tempts of ~100 on every core! Now I am back down idling at ~40-45*C... My question is, why????? Why on earth would a stock, non-overclocked CPU hit those temps? Seems quite rediculous. My i5-2400 doesn't hit near those temps when under load and I'm running the stock cooler on that as well. Should I return the processor? Should I keep the processor and buy a 212 Evo or something? I've never encountered these kinds of temps with a brand new, non-OC processor before. Help please!

Also, RealTemp's thermal status changed from "OK" to "Log" during that Windows Experience test.... Not sure if that means anything or not.

I just cleaned both surfaces with the Arctic Cool cleaning kit, then applied a pea sized blob of Silver 5 and reseated. Let's hope this does the trick! If not, I think it might be the prongs on the cooler keeping it from seating correctly. But no, I didn't clean/add new thermal after I reseated the first 2 times.

Idling higher than before now.... Even after cleaning/reapplying new thermal paste. I think the prongs on the CPU cooler might be jacked, maybe this thing just can't seat properly. Idling between 70-80.

Read the instructions, I can never get a stock intel cooler to install properly without studying the instructions for a while.
