What are the best AMD cpu's

The 8350, it will normally clock right up to where the 9590 and 9370 sit, uses less power and can run right with those two jokes, those 'CPU's were just a ploy by AMD to grab some press, they released the 9590 at close to 1K with no prerelease exposure to reviewers (and for good reason - once people started reviewing it showed that a stock 4770K at 3.5GHz outperformed the 3x more costly 9590....

I'm sure all of us agree it I'd an abysmal CPU, but it is AMDs most powerful.

For pure computations the Opteron gets around 265GFlops and the FX gets around 85GFlops so the Opteron is much higher performing than the FX but for it you would need a much more expensive motherboard and you would see almost no support in general application for 16 cores.

The reason for this is because the Opteron can complete twice the amount of floating point operations per cycle as the FX.

Think most of us (I know I was) were thinking PC based CPUs, where the Opteron's are aimed at Servers and say Unix

This is true but that's why I had the second line on my first post say that the CPUs above are the answer to the original question.

Depends on the use, an 8350 will be better for gaming, but an 8150 would be better at overclocking, I believe the record for highest clock speed was done with an 8150 but don't hold me to that. Server chips are better suited for 24/7 operation.

The only problem with the 8150 at that speed is that it consumes a ton of power (if I remember its something like 300W at full load) and you have to take into account the other components too like the GPU which if it's high end can easily consume 400W of power.

I'm assuming the 8150 would be after that, but what would be after the 8150? I need a good cpu that isn't too expensive have about a ~200$ range.

After the 8150 comes the 8120 but they're both not really worth your time looking at. Get the 8320 and get sweets or games with the money you save. Overclocking should take you to the same speed as the 8350 and you could probably push it further.

You may of may not be able to push it further because most of the chips that can be pushed further got moved up to a high rank because AMD could sell it for more. So if you want to OC a lot I would go with the 8350, but if it's not that big of a deal get the 8320.

You are right about the 8350 and the 220W cpus. The 8150 is based on the older "Bulldozer/Zambezi" architecture whereas the 8350 and the 220W cpus are based on the "Piledriver/Vishera" architecture.
