Bought a PC from a classified ad and I'm trying to install Windows 7 for a fresh install. Sounds easy enough right?

Well, upon inserting the disc I get an error stating that the CD/DVD device driver is not present and I would need to load it. Googling the issue brought up something do to with RAID/AHCI settings under the BIOS. Its suggested to have that at IDE i believe and that's where it's been from the beginning so not an issue there.

Having no luck with the above I tried my hand at creating a bootable Windows 7 USB drive. That gets me a little farther in the installation. However at about 11% under expanding Windows files. I get an error number 0x80070570. Researching that led me to testing the memory which it turns out I had one bad stick out of the four, same error message though.

I did manage to get the disc to boot and got it to 100% under the expanding Windows files stage. I then recieved error number 0x80070017. And now Windows says that it cannot startup.

I am at a loss as what to do next, or what the issue(s) might be.

System specs:
Phenom II 955
Gigabyte 770t mobo
GTX 470
Earthwatts 650W psu
750GB HDD
LG Optical Drive

I would start the installation again and be sure to delete the partitions on the target drive for the O/S at the beginning of the installation by clicking on 'Advanced' at the screen where you choose the target drive.

Delete both partitions, then create one single partition and allocate all the space to it. Windows will automatically create a second, normally hidden, system partition.

Don't bother with format, that's automatic too, just go to the next page and wait for it to expand the files again.

If push comes to shove, use an application from a bootable disk and sabotage the drive by deleting the partitions with something like 'Diskpart.' from the command prompt. If you have no other drives connected the you could execute...
Do you have another PC to put the hard drive into? Just to make sure its good. If you can download the Crystal Disk Info in my Signature and if it says anything besides Good let me know what.

Also try installing with just bare min parts. Like 1 stick of ram, if you have onboard video take out the 470 ect.

Also the Error 0x80070017 is usually Bad Media. Are you using a burned disk you downloaded or an actual Windows 7 Install disk? If you downloaded it maybe try redownload and reburn it again. I know everyones always like...Burn it at 4x or some super slow speed but i have never see any issue with burning at a full 16 or 24x. Or better yet try using the USB option again after you download the ISO.

If its a DVD you bought maybe try another DVD rom drive you got. That can cause issues as well. Had a lot of XP installs that didn't like some CD Rom drives. Also ACHI/RAID/IDE have NOTHING to do with the DVD rom drive and ONLY hard drives. ACHI is best and since its a kinda old system you should be fine with setting it to ACHI and installing windows. Should have the drivers for it built in.

If you have no other drives connected the you could execute something like, 'Select Disk 0' followed by 'Enter' and then executing 'Clean All'.

Then let the Windows installer sort out the mess and make itself work.

Thanks to the both of you for taking the time to help. I tried deleting both partitions and made a single one like himnextdoor suggested and the installation went through smoothly. The expanding Windows files step went a lot quicker as well. Thank you SO much.
