So I'm currently in the middle of trying to fix a laptop for a friend, its a Toshiba Satellite L670 -OED.

Her Laptop is showing messages that she needs to replace the harddrive, however its still booting into Windows (Even if loading anything is painfully slow). So i'm wondering if I could clone her drive into the new one, and just factory reset windows.

Solution
That key will only work if its a toshiba reinstall disk. If you don't have a reinstall disk i would call/chat/email them and tell them whats up. They should send you a DVD because most likely the recovery partition is on the old hard drive. first thing i would do is get an External or a Thumb drive and back up all files before it does go out. Then once that is done try making a system recovery DVD though windows. Of you go to the Backup And Restore there is a Create a System Image that should make an exact image of the PC as it is now. Easiest way would be to plug in an external drive and then save it to the drive or go though a million DVD's lol. Then if you have a windows 7 install disk you click on the Repair option at the begining...
Run the crystal Disk Info programs in my Signature. Now if it has either Current Pending sector counts or Uncorrectable Sector counts then the answer is now. If there are Reallocated sectors ONLY there might be a chance depending on how high the count is. Now if the BIOS is telling you the hard drive is failing then its probably pretty far along and probably won't let you clone it.

But again first things first and get those files off
