ok so this is my first time using DVI-cable anything, I just got a new graphics card and installed it and i got no signal i thought it was the graphics card but now im thinking its the dvi. I just bought a dvi cable and plugged it in to my monitor and my motherboard without the graphics card installed. and i get no signal. so i switch back to my vga and everyhting works fine. I change the monitor settings to dvi and it says no signal. My monitor is an AOC e2243fwk. i have an amd a8 5600k apu. and an ASUS f2 a55-m lk plus mobo. i need help with this please i have been searching all day for solutions. the dvi cable is the one with all the pins and then a wide single pin at the end.

Solution
just as i thought, and if the DVI on the gpu doesn't work either i would say its very likely its the cord.

No bios settings correspond with using vga vs dvi, because it would be ridiculous for someone who wants to use DVI, to have to use vga to see the screen, boot to the bios, and change it to dvi. Its all automatic

If the cable in fact fits, and your not using any converters or adapters, its pretty cut and dried, its either the cable or the port. Based on experience, ive seen much more bad cables than i have bad ports

the onboard has vga and dvi. the gpu has dvi or hdmi but my monitor only has vga or dvi. the only thing i am trying to do right now is get my monitor to work with my onboard graphics using dvi. it works fine with vga just not dvi.
