Hello all,

Let me start off by telling you that I have a i5-3570k CPU on a ASUS P8Z77 VLK Motherboard.
I've been messing around with the multiplier and voltage settings trying to find a stable OC within the BIOS and usind ASUS' Evo TuboV software, but after a little while just decided to try and restore my BIOS settings to default optimal.

Within the BIOS it shows my multiplier range as 16-34 with the Turbo boost enabled, but when I get into Windows and open CPU Z it shows the range as 16-44 and the frequency hits 4400+ under load. I already uninstalled the ASUS software as I also had the multiplier set to 44 on that program but it is still happening. Any ideas or advice as to why this is happening is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

When playing with the OC software may have set it to the BIOS as 'permanent change', should be able to go into BIOS and reset the multiplier to 34 and leave turbo on - or simpl reset the CMOS which will take things back to factory default

Try using the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility instead of the bundled software.

You have to uninstall all the overclocking software and then so a registry repair. That is the key after uninstalling the OC software. After that your bios should be back in control of the settings.

Would suggest OCing direct through the BIOS, the software add ons are seldom custom to your mobo and finer adjustments aren't available like in the BIOS itself

Yeah thanks for the advice I appreciate it, I uninstalled the ASUS Software and ended up clearing the CMOS, all is back to normal for now. I'll prob just leave it at stock boost until a real OC is needed in the future, I've head about delidding + a water cooling set-up with the IB chips and people have been getting really great results but that's something I'd only do if necessary. Thanks again.
