Hi everyone!
I purchased an Asus Vivobook S301LA with 4GB RAM (1600MHz), and i bought another 4GB 1600MHz (transcend). When i installed the memory, the machine didnt boot up at all. The white power led turned on but the screen stayed black. After i removed the additional memory the machine back to work fine.
I read here that it may be memory compability issue, so i ask you which memory do i need to buy?
i think that the original 4gb are ddr3L - so i have to buy ddr3L also?
or maybe the memory i bought can be compatible with my laptop and im missing something?

Thanks,
Ziv

I think your DDR3 is not getting enough voltage.DDR3L needs less voltage than the DDR3.So your motherboard maybe supplying DDR3L voltages to the DDR3 memory, which in turn result in system not booting up.A DDR3 needs 1.5V while the DDR3L needs only 1.35V.So maybe that's the deficiency of Voltage.
I'd suggest getting another DDR3L,since there's no difference between the DDR3 and DDR3L,besides that voltage difference. Anyway, the L one will have less heat, and so,more life span. So best go for the DDR3L.

Zivbarlas, can you please take some pictures on where the memory is located on this model? I just bought the same computer and installed my SSD and wireless card, but i didnt see where the memory was. Is it on the backside (keyboard side) of the board?

Hi,
the machine has a on-board 4gb memory, and an expansion slot located under an aluminum case (you should see it when you open the bottom cover. you need to gently remove this case and then you can add more memory.

Thank you Ziv, I thought it might be under that shield but when I looked at it, the shield looked like it was tacked to the board and non-removable. I thought it might be some kind of heat shield. Have you gotten your DDR3L yet?

Can I get a "bump" here? I am about to purchase this computer and would like to know if I should go for the 4gb model or the 6gb...if it is indeed upgradeable I will buy the 4gb.

Looking forward to your answers.

FWIW: I spoke with a Best Buy member today. They claimed it is Upgradeable and that even their Geek Squad would do it for a price. Sounds promising at least that it is do-able.
