Hey guys,
I got an old system with:
Intel Core Duo E6550 2.33Ghz
GA-P35-DS3R rev .2
2GB PC800 DDR2
Palit 8800GT Sonic 512MB/256bit

My goal is to find the best possible GPU for this mix - I intend to upgrade only RAM, GPU and PS.
Goal is to get a gaming rig on the cheap with possibility to play latest titles in HD with high/ultra settings.

Any suggestions?

Solution
I have and i agree that it will not be able to get most of the performance out of the card, however, it will not bottle neck, also it's the only cheapest solution for him to play games at high settings with Vsync off and AA set to 2.

i believe it may be better value for money to upgrade your cpu to an intel i5 or those amd 8000 series and get a cheaper gpu.
cpu 150$ - 200$
mobo 50$ - 100$
mem 50$ - 80$ get 8gb
gpu 150$ - 200$ or more
psu 50$

i don't disagree with your gpu selection but an e6550 is weak have you seen this performing on new games?
