Will the Core i3-530 suffice for modern day gaming?

I have recently come across an i3-530, along with a Mini-ITX board and 2 GB of RAM. I have managed to put this all into an old Dell Dimension case that I had kicking around, along with an old HD 2400 Pro (Rubbish card I know, but it seems to perform better than the integrated graphics on that chip).

Now, I plan to purchase an HD 7870, (which I know is an overkill for this rig, but I plan to totally rebuild when I have some more money, with the graphics card being the only thing transferred from this PC) along with 4 GB of RAM. My question is, how will this CPU handle games for the time being? From my understanding, it is a reasonably capable chip, but I know it is old now, and I am not sure how it will deal with the latest games. I'm not looking to run them at incredibly high settings, just medium at 1280*1024 (and later 1600*900).

Any help will be greatly appreciated! (and keep in mind, this is only a temporary solution. I will be planning to upgrade everything bar the graphics card when my budget allows for it.)

Thank you, I was aware that it would be a bottleneck, but all I am looking for out of this is something to tide me over for about 6 months, before I build my proper rig. I don't mind playing on lower graphics settings, so thanks! Your answer has been very helpful!
