Currently building a pc, was wondering if these two are similarly priced which one is better to be matched with my build. My build being an I7 4770k, MSI Z87 G41 board, 16 gb ram corsair, 120 gb SSD ADATA, and a 1tb 7200 rpm hdd. If anyone does answer, thanks! It will be used for gaming as well as for after effects and some light 3d modeling i will be working on.

You cant really compare 2 amd gpu's against a singular 770

the HD7990 will always come on top and beat the 770 on paper however it is also littered with problems and poor drivers along with the potential that certain games are not optimised for SLi

The hd7990 is a beast of a card and at a great price. However there is also a reason it didnt sell well and is most likely (if not definitely to be discontinued.

you might be worth looking into the R9 280x sapphire toxic?

The reasons the 7990 had problems have been fixed ( microstutter ) this was caused by dropped frames and this has been fixed in recent driver releases. ( I run 2 5870's in xfire and they are running flawlessly even in bf3 and skyrim the 2 biggest games that ppl complained about ) amd's actual drivers are no worse than nvidias and has been that way for years now..Frame pacing is not included and turned on by default on amd cards.

Im buying from ibuypower because of deals they have, the toxic isnt a choice, but HIS Radeon R9-280X IceQ X2 is, is this still a better choice than 4gb gtx 770 or 6gb hd 7990?

The 7990 can run very hot due to sucking in hot ventilated air... watercool the 7990 or have good ventilation and then you have an awesome card , I didnt know the beta drivers were that successful... If they are truly fixed then 7990 it is.

I agree the 79990 ran a bit hot.. but aftermarket coolers, well ventilated case, or liquid easily remedies that. ( honestly I can't believe the ppl who don't think of airflow when building a rig. it's scary. ) Yeah frame times in xfire are for the most part fixed. I enjoy bf3 140 ish fps on ultra ( no blur or AA ( for some reason AA in bf3 bring my 5870's to their knees ))

if you are playing on a single monitor (multimonitor still got some issues with crossfire), id defenetly go for the the hd7990, its basicly two r9 280x on one board and one 280x competites with a 770.
