I've just bought a 3930k for £270 and an Asus Sabertooth for £150.

I still need memory and a HDD but will be getting a refurbished H100 cooler from scan for £44.

Have I made the right decision in this moment of time and for the future? I'm a heavy gamer (BF4 and the majority of the new launch titles alongside the console releases) and am at uni so will be doing video editing, animation and photography as well.

Just wondering on if the decision I made was a good one and if I should sell for a small profit and go the AMD route, which seems to be a popular and cash saving move...?

Thanks guys, yeh I've already bought a 7970 Vapor-X Ghz Edition for £87 that was sold as faulty but again lucky me - I've had it running perfectly fine on my current old Q6600 with no problems :)

I'm terrible at making a decision and feeling confident with it no matter how much research or good deals I find, I always seem to wonder if the "grass is greener".. Hopefully my wallet will forgive me !

You're so lucky. That's almost the price I'm paying for my Quad Core i7 4770k.

Oh, and yes, the 3930k will completely demolish the FX 8350.

6 cores w/ hyperthreading = 12 virtual cores.
For BF4, really, you only need an i5, so you will be good for a long time!
You will be able to do some really heavy multitasking too, and the 6 core design of the 3930k really does come in handy in video editing at high resolutions (make sure you have a lot of RAM too). TBH, I'm kind of jealous

I would get an SSD an install all your programs on there (and your OS). That is, if you don't already have one. It seems as though your motherboard only supports 1866 Mhz RAM and below. I'll double check that.

Edit: Yep, your mobo only supports 1866 and below. You shouldn't be worried, there's little to none difference between the two, except price of course.

:) Got my eye on 16gb (4x4) Corsair Vengeance 2133 that I'm assuming will just run at 1866? :)

Just managed to get an 120gb Samsung 840 Pro cheap and now looking at the 1TB Seagate ST1000DM003 Barracuda for the rest as I think some programs or games don't work on SSD ? Unsure of the reality of that though..

Yep. Some motherboards automatically recognize ram at 1333 or 1600 speeds, so you may or may not have to do some tweaking in the bios.

All programs are compatible with an SSD. Your SSD isn't the biggest in the world, like mine, you have a 120GB. Install your OS, most used programs and stuff on your SSD, and photos, video, etc on your HDD. Make sure it's a 7200 rpm Hard drive.
