CURRENT RIG

Geforce 660 Twin froz III
AMD FX6100 3.3GHz
Asus M5A99X MOBO

My MOBO supports AMD's FX series/ phenom II/Athlon II/ Sempron 100 series(Socket AM3+/AM3)

What series of AMD CPU is the best for gaming with my setup?

check out the prices of the FX 6300, it should be just a little bit more than the 6100. The 6100 is the older bulldozer model and isn't even better than the phenom ii x4s in most benchmarks. the 6300 is much better, better overclocking potential, better stock performance and is one hell of a chip. It is definitely worth every bit of its price.

i have no experience of over clocking. i wouldnt know were to start...
ALso i have a ZODIAC GEFORCE 9500GT GPU sitting around. Could i add that to my rig? would it boost FPS? would i boost graphics? iv heard of people using second card for PhysX. What is physX? what dose it do? how dose it help me?

the 9500GT is a very old gpu it won't be very good in new games. You need a graphics card for any FX CPU. Using a second card for PhysX is dodgy at best and doesn't really work well. PhysX is a physics model that is exclusive to nVidia graphics cards. Not too many games use it and you can disable it if you have an AMD card. It does make for some nice visual effects (like robes blowing in the wind for example) however it isn't very wide spread.

You could use the 9500GT for now but don't expect to play many games with it. I had one in an old Athlon build running WinXP. It played starcraft 2 ok at 1440x900, but then again, starcraft 2 isn't very graphically demanding. It definitely can't handle BF3/4, or any new game.

If you have nothing else then you might as well use it but definitely replace it as soon as you can with something like a GTX 650 Ti Boost or a HD 7870 or something. If you can get a new graphics card now, then I'd highly recommend it.

I would. the phenom IIs are getting hard to find and wouldn't increase performance over your 6100 by enough to justify the cost. A 6300 hould increase the performance by a decent amount but again, not enough to justify the cost.

The only cpus that you could get now that would be justified would be either the 8320 or 8350. If I were you, I'd wait and only upgrade if your performance is unacceptable to you.
