Hello,

I'm not the most tech savvy person, so my transition from console (xbox 360) to PC gaming was very nerve wracking because, while I had the budget to explore some options, all of the part specs were in a foreign language to me. Through some research and guidance from people on here and other forums, I managed to piece together a build from newegg.com and had a friend help me put everything together. Mind you, this was May of 2012. So now that we're about a year and a half out from my build, I was looking for some insight on potential future upgrades (not necessarily quite yet, but in the nearish future, if deemed necessary).

As far as my gaming goes, I'd really like to be able to play some of the more demanding games on high / ultra settings. My next game purchase and pretty much the only thing I'll be playing for a while is Battlefield 4. With that in mind, a.) will these specs allow smooth play on the more demanding settings? b.) do you have any suggestions of quick / cheap alternatives to optimize the overall build c.) anything else worth mentioning??

Current Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge:

GPU: XFX Radeon HD 7970:

RAM: G-SKILL Ares 8GB:

MOBO: MSI Z-77:

SSD: Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 120 GB:

PSU: Rosewill 750W:

Hard Drive: Seagate Baracuda 750 GB:

While going back and relinking all of these, I've noticed that a lot of the pieces have significantly lower user reviews now than when I originally purchased them , unfortunately =/. So yeah, if anyone with good gaming insight could let me know what they think about how this build will hold up with upcoming games, mostly Battlefield 4.

And if there are any suggestions, PLEASE enlighten me! I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to read this! I hope some people out there will have some stuff to say! Thanks again

Your build was very good then, and is still reasonable.
There have been improvements in cpu and graphics that make your parts a bit dated. The 2500K was superceeded by the 3570K and later the 4670K.
You get a bit more for your money with needing less power and cooling.
Ditto on the graphics front.

I see no need to change until your current pc no longer does what you need.
If you start to game on triple monitors or 4k monitors, you might need a stronger graphics card in the future.

If you upgrade to a stronger graphics card, make it a big jump, or you may be disappointed.
Something like a 7990. R9-290X, GTX690, GTX780ti for example.

Should be fine on what you have, if not yet OCed, can OC the 2500K and get it up there, most all will do 4.6 or better, don't see a need to upgrade anything at the moment, unless you want to add a SSD for the OS and Apps to speed things up at that point
