My present config -

fx8350 processor
corsair h60 cooler
8gb ripjawsx 1600mhz ram
vapor x 7970 gfx card
asrock 990fx extreme 4 mobo
seasonic m12ii 850w bronze certified psu
wd caviar blue 1tb hdd
intel 330 60gb ssd

now i'm planning to change my mobo to corsshair v formula-z as asrock is shitty and also i'm going to get r9 280x to crossfire it with 7970
i'm also going to oc my 8350 to 4.8ghz as mentioned in rog website and get another 8gb ram.
so can my psu handle all these stuff? please help :)

Solution

Yes. Easily. People tend to buy ridiculously over-sized PSUs lately, which is totally unnecessary for the majority of users. All it does it waste electricty and run up your power bill. If you put a power meter on your PC, and run it under load you will find you're drawing at most 300W from that system. With another 7970, that will go to maybe 500W.

Solution

Well, a single 7970 can draw 250W, so a pair of those alone could team up for 500W. And then another couple hundred for an overclocked 8350, so at worst-case load you're at maybe 700W rather than 500. Still not a problem with a quality 850W PSU though.

Oh that's sad :\ i guess i'll not go upto 4.8 then. i'll stay within 4.5

well are you totally sure? cuz i tried calculating power supply here - http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
it said it will take ~900w :(

Power supply calculators are somewhat inaccurate and do typically overestimate requirements a bit. The TDP of the GPU is 250W, and for the CPU 125W. That combines to 625W. Other components add a little to that number, and overclocking adds some more again. But you're still going to stay within the 850W limit.

The Extreme 9 is a great overclocking board.

Asrock 990FX Extreme 9 \ FX8350 \ 5.1GHZ. \ 1.384 VOLTS

Phanteks PH-TC14PE with Scythe Slipstream 110 CFM fans attached.

Yep, you're right. I didn't think the TDP of a 7970 was that high! That said, you can use ALL of a Seasonic's rated power, and there still no way you get to 850W on that system.
