So I am getting ready to go into college as a computer engineering major (CPSE). I am obviously going to have to do a lot of programming and would like to have a laptop that I can keep all of my schoolwork on (including my compiler and programs and such). I have heard horror stories of programs taking 36 hours to compile, and I don't want that to happen to me. I am a computer programmer, but I have never done anything like that and quite frankly, I don't know much about any of my compilers (I am self-taught). Are compilers very heavily threaded (meaning an i7 with 8 threads would help a lot)? Maybe you all could recommend specific laptops under $1,000 that would do me good?

Simple call the collage and as for help. I'm pretty sure, they have either an IT guy or a teacher who can recommend a laptop. You probably even get a discount on specific models. And no, compilers are not heavily threaded and none of your programs will take more then 5 minutes to compile.
