Card doesn't show up in device manager

I have just installed a "new to me" graphics card that I know works, plugged in both connectors to the power supply (both 6 pin) it is an nvidia geforce 8800 gtx oc. The fan come on and the monitor is plugged into it with the dvi cable but it won't show up in device manager. I can't download the drivers for it because nvidia doesn't detect the device either so they won't install. Any help is appreciated please I want to play startrek online on full graphics...lol...HELP!! Oh yeah I'm running windows 7 32 bit with an amd phenom 9150e quad-core processor at 1.80ghz 4 gb of RAM

it's a cooler master extreme
also i tried changing the option in the bios from pci, to pci-e, to onboard (when i sat everything to default in bios pci is selected for some reason even though it's an onboard card.

Not a good PSU. Ripple is out of spec when you draw lots of power. Like with your older GPU.

It also says it only has one PCIe plug. I'm assuming it isn't powering up because you are using adapters and one of the rails is probably overloaded or something. You can try changing where the molex plugs that feed the adapter come from, but you probably need a different PSU.

OK so I switched out that PSU with a BeQuiet active pfc model that's 450 watts which should be more than enough both 6 pin connects are plugged in not using any adapters and the fan still comes on on the card but the computer still doesn't see it in device manager.

You did say new to you, so any friends who can help you test it in their computer? Just wondering if the card is working or not.

How are you getting video? Onboard? What happens when you tell the bios to boot from the PEG/PCIe slot and you have the monitor plugged in there?

Hey thanks for hangin in there with me trying to diagnose it. I plugged in another card (an old 7300 le) that i had laying around and it works in that slot. So I guess the other card is just dead, even if the fan works. One weird thing though, when i set my bios to default PCI was selected for some reason. "either way though i tried pci, pci-e and onboard and it never read the card. it is reading the other card on pci-e though so it's still better than what i had with the onboard stuff.

I still say try that card in another computer if you can. Might just be some incompatibility between your computer and the card. But if things were working and they stop after "new" part is put in, its usually the new part.
