Right now I have a power supply cord that is having issues with its power cable connection, causing short/power shut down of my pc when a cord is bumped.

My current setup is:

- ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
- Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
- Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor BX80601950
- 2 x SAPPHIRE 100314SR Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
- CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Compatible
- CORSAIR XMS3 12GB (6 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model HX3X12G1600C9 G
- G.SKILL Phoenix Pro Series FM-25S2S-60GBP2 2.5" 60GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

I need a new power supply but I want to upgrade the wattage to something higher. is it necessary or should I just get another 750W?

Not necessary unless you plan to upgrade your graphics cards. 2x HD 6870, a quality 550W or 600W is more than sufficient. Is your PSU still under warranty? Are you saying that if you flicked at the power cable, your computer will shut off?

I think that's OP current build. Otherwise, this would be a very strange hypothetical post.
