I have been trying to update the graphic card drivers for my Intel R HD 4000 graphics card in-built on the Alien ware M17XR4 .But i am never successful to update the drivers other then the ones that are recommended on the Dell drivers and downloads .I know theres a latest release for Intel R HD 4000 video card drivers .But i cant seem to update it to the latest version of the video card drivers on my notebook .Need help with this problem . Some games require an update of video graphic card drivers to run successfully .The drivers recommended on the Dells official web site are older versions then the version of the drivers currently installed on my system .But they too are out dated compared to the latest version of drivers im trying to install with no success.

It's because it isn't using HD 4000, it will have a dedicated GPU.

HD 4000 is the integrated graphics on your CPU. Since the laptop has a discrete GPU, the GTX 680M, HD 4000 is disabled. Try http://www.geforce.com/drivers to check for updated drivers.

I have an AMD 7970M graphics card installed on the M17XR4 Alien ware notebook. Not the Nvidia one.Does that pose a problem according the solution you have suggested ?

No there's no problem, in that case check out AMD's website and search for the drivers there.

But ive been trying to install the latest drivers for the Intel R HD 4000 graphic card on the M17XR4 Alien ware notebook .I dont seem to understand what would finding drivers on the AMD website have to do with this ? .Could you please make me understand one more time ?.

Sure thing! Because your notebook has the 7970M, the Intel HD 4000 graphics chip is completely disabled, it's not being used at all. The HD 4000 is what's known as in integrated GPU, or iGPU, that Intel has developed on the CPU. So if you didn't have that 7970M, you would be using the HD 4000 chip.

For example: on my computer I use the i5-3350P, which does not come with Intel HD graphics; therefore, I have to use a discrete GPU (in my case, an HD 6950 2GB card) in order to display video from my computer. If I were to just plug my monitor into the onboard DVI, then I would just get a blank screen.

I hope that helps

So to update the drivers for the Intel R HD 4000 graphics card .Would i need to enable it too ? .And if so how can i enable it ?.

i disagree with it being disabled since in 2d it should be using the hd4000 to save power since its a laptop just like my lenovo does unless you set it to use your dedicated card all the time.

either way you should be stiull able to update the hd4000 but when loading the game it should be defaulting to the 7970m and not even detecting the hd4000

The reason for this hassle of going through updating graphic card drivers and stuff is all being caused by one pc game that i have not been able to run on my note book pc .It always gives this error as i try to launch it .

Alien colonial marines has stopped working. The program has stopped working and will be closed .Windows will look for a solution .

A technical support guy at Sega after viewing my Dxdiag informed me of updating my Intel graphic card drivers .That why i have had this issue . So any solution to this ?

the only thing is it should not be using the hd4000 when loading the game. one option would be to make sure in control panel if there is an option to set your prefered graphics card. after that right click on my computer and go to computer management and from there go to device manager. click where it says display adapters and right clcik on the hd4000 and hit disable. now hopefully the screen does nto go black which from there if it does you will have to reboot and hit f8 on boot and hit vga compatability mode i believe and then change your resolution back and enable the card.

but did you try intels site? that is where the newest driver would be or even under windows update optional section

Yes i did try the intel site but it doesnt allow me to install the latest drivers .I always get an error after installation that the driver is not appropiate to my system and installation fails after that . How ever i updated the drivers for the Intel R HD 4000 through the windows update driver option but it still didnt update to the latest drivers as available on the intel site.
