Hello,

I just had my HDD in my ~18 month old HP Envy 15 notebook fail on me (can still boot into Safe Mode, but barely). I am wondering about upgrading to something like a Samsung 840 Evo, maybe a 250GB. Does anyone have experience with using the Samsung Data Migration Tool to get the OS and files off of a failed or failing HDD? Thank you.

If your HDD is that sick, you probably should do a clean install. The migration tool is for cloning a HD. Try to save all the data that you want to keep and then install windows from scratch on to the ssd. Then you can load all the saved data.
