I posted a question regarding upgrading my ssd to a larger ssd http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1816109/easiest-fix-full-ssd.html#xtor=EPR-8809

I started doing what I chose as the simplest solution, which is backing up the 55gb ssd onto my larger hdd drive, creating a boot disc, then removed my 55gb ssd and connected my 256gb ssd. Now my system is asking me where the system image files and cant seem to find them on my hdd. What am I missing? I'm close to just placing my smaller ssd and doing the system backup again on my hdd but I'll just have the same problem again if I cant find the system backup (or system image) files. Btw, system backup = system image right? Bah...

Solution
Ok first we need info on your system, the drive you are using, and how its connect.

typically, for example, usb3 ports do not work in restore mode because the simple recovery os does not have drivers for it. The same applies for some USB ports. The safest usb port to try are the ones on the back nearest the the top of the backplane (by the keybd & mouse port)

next a system image can be created from the same backup & restore section, the option is on the left side of the screen. Please create a system repair disk also.

as an fyi, a backup can be set to backup various things and as such is not a full image. You typically restore your backup after reinstalling windows to get your important files back.

ah ok, great info! Just an fyi, did you learn all this info from experience, book? I'd love to stop being such a newb on my computer one day. Anyways, I have an ASUS P8P67 Pro motherboard and my OCZ 55 gb ssd and my Western Digital 1TB HDD are connected to the motherboard on the 2 6gb/s connections. I've never used an external drive and haven't used the usb 3 connection.

I tried to create to clone my smaller ssd onto my larger ssd. When I connected the larger Samsung 840 Pro 256gb ssd, it was to the 3gb/s connection on the motherboard but for some reason the Samsung data migration utility didn't work--it gave me the error message after 98% completion that 'the driver was disconnected', lol!

When I used windows 7 again (after removing the larger ssd and basically starting from scratch) to, this time, specifically make a system image onto the hdd, windows would not recognize my hdd as a place to create the system image--I guess it MUST be an external hdd to work?! They should maybe say that on windows somewhere?

I do have a 2TB Western Digital drive attached to my network but it's been dead for the last week. I think this computer is hexed.
