I recently got an ASUS GTX 760, and is currently playing a few games (both intensive, and not) with it.

Since I want my system to run as efficient as possible, I'm underclocking my videocard to its lowest, allowable clock speeds. Is that alright? Even when I play graphics-intensive games at 720p at max settings? I have yet to get a decent 1080p monitor in maybe a month from now.

Also, are GPU power consumption fixed? Or it depends on the game? I.E., playing Metro or Crysis 3 consumes more watts compared to playing low-spec steam games or games from earlier years.

It's alright to underclock your card if you want more efficiency and stability, using less power and also producing less heat. It's overclocking that can potentially kill stuff.

Yup, and depending on how demanding the game is and of course how much you underclock your card, your GPU's power consumption will vary accordingly.

But why would anybody want to underclock your card.....
