Crossfire 7970s smoke a single 770, a single 7970 can go toe to toe with the 770 in some games, and only a little slower in most cases

do you have (or planning to have) multi monitor set up ?
if not and you have only single full-hd monitor , you don´t need pair of such powerful videocards.
and there is new revision of 7970 : 280x (cheaper solution)
also even single 280x if overclocked is only slightly inferior to gtx770 for much lower price...

I would take the single 770 and/or SLI route due to im not all that fond of amd drivers and not to bought on the fact they crossfire issues isnt all of that imo. As far as a single 770 you can always go sli in the future and SLI is getting more mature and still growing...
