Yeah, I don't really know much about this stuff, I'm kinda hoping for someone else to solve this one for me. I've gone around in circles for weeks about all of this and my brain is a mess :c

More about : 500w psu work 280x

If it is a good model like corsair or seasonic that can put out preety much all of the power labaled it should work, altough its kinda pushing it to the edges, a 600w from a good model like those two would be a safer option.

What is the exact PSU model? If you do not know, post a photo of the side sticker on the PSU.

Also what are the rest of your specs? ALL of them.

you need to know the minimum current requirement for the 290X, and the 12V current supplied by your power supply. Its not as easy as 500W=OK. its 12V amps = OK (if the psu is of good quality)>

If it is your typical gaming PC with a single 280x then you will be pulling around 300-350 watts at load. So I tend to say yes it should be fine as long as the PSU is of any decent quality. Without a make and model its hard to guarantee since not all 500 watt PSU's can actually handle the amps.

Technically it has enough power available. Not sure about the reliability though.

I'm also unsure about if the 2 6-pins I have for my current GPU will be enough to supply the r9 280x, do you have any ideas about that? :3

Hmm it uses 1x 6pin and 1 time 8 pin.

That could be an issue. Maybe its time for a PSU upgrade.

Yeah, that could be the final option, and that's too what I thought was needed, I just had to make sure. But thanks for your help, I think I can do from now.

:)  no problem.

Its never a bad thing to upgrade from a PSU you are unsure about. Make sure you get a reliable manufactured unit.

Yeah, I've got a store pretty close to me with good prices and good brands, so the only thing I have to do is installing it correctly :o
