Hey may someone help me with a step-by-step easy foolproof guide for me to follow since i'm kind of a newbie but i know quite alot about hardware etc. am just new in ssd migrating.

So my Windows 8.1 is on my 2TB 7200rpm hdd and i have 3 partitions on that hdd.

partition 1 - (c:)  OS 1.43TB (1.36 TB free)

partition 2 - (d:)  Recovery Image 19.3GB (2.37GB free)

partition 3 - (z:)  Extra stuff 371GB (342GB free)

and my SSD is a kingston 120gb v300.

help? :o  thanks ^_^

i tried doing it myself using a few online tutorials but miserably failed. it keeps failing. I could bring it to the local shop and have em do it for me and that would be much easier but cost money and they probably just do a clean install of windows 8 on the ssd . but i'm worried that the clean install is pirated and they will delete my old original copy of windows 8 which i updated to 8.1

unless i take it to them and they do it and i just use my product key to activate it? well i don't know about this legal stuff. ok well ignore what i said i just want to transfer to ssd.

thanks guys

there's a 4th hidden system partition (usually 200MB) that is the key to a sucessful move. you need to shrink your windows partition down to less than 120GB, say 100GB to be safe. And then you can start thinking about moving it. note that this is not always easy.
if you have a genuine copy yourself why not just remove the 2TB, fit the 120GB install win8 and 8.1 and then re-fit the 2TB.

Oh so after i clone the c: partition to the ssd once i decrease it to around 100gb. i must also clone the hidden system partition around 200mb? cuz i did remember seeing a hidden partition in the partition manager and it was roughly around that size. so i guess i mustve left this one out during my previous attempt in migrating to ssd.

my windows 8.1 is original with the product key. the only problem is i can't do a fresh install on the ssd since i don't have the windows 8 cd. the windows 8 came preinstalled on my rig.
