so, i bought this pc and it runs really well but the graphics card is a bit rubbish and i get pop ups on games telling me its not compatible and i need a better one, the only problem is, when i try to look it up i get confused by all the jargon! so could someone please tell me, in a really dumbed down way, what card to get and how to put it in? also, i have a budget of up to £60 but i was hoping these things would be fairly cheap...?

Please post the specifications of your system and then include which games you would like to play.
For how to find and give system specs take a look at the examples and the stickies at the top of this forum.

For 60(pounds = about 130 Canadian$), without knowing exactly what CPU you have, I can already tell you that your computer will bottleneck ( limit ) the GPU (graphics card) performance.

Also you can have a look yourself at what the minimum system requirements are for the games you would like to play by googling exactly that. Ex: min sys req for Civ 5, ... for battlefield 2, etc.

There are many different ways... is this a stock system (bought from Dell or refurbished) or has it been modified by someone

i bought it off amazon as a quick fix after our old one broke, it said it was a standard mini office one, i didnt really check anything except its ram and memory, which is 4gb and 240gb.

Here's where you're going to have to do some research. It's just not possible to tell you " Oh sure, buy 'this' card" with the info you are providing!
1.Please google dell optiplex 755, look at the images and tell us the exact name of the form factor ( Mini-tower, Desktop, Small form factor)
2. Download a program called cpu-z (it's free). use that to determine what CPU (computer processor) you have. Also this prog. will be able to tell you what TYPE of ram memory you have - the CPU and type of ram are important to figuring out which card(s) will work with your system (the Hard drive is not a factor in this issue)
3. Which games are you trying to play?

Good Idea. Also please indicate which edition of those games , fallout3 (I'm assuming) elders scrolls?, age of empires?

Make sure you tell which case form factor your have. If it's the small form factor you will be very limited in what card (if any) you can install.

Also, you're not going to like this next bit... At some point before a card is recommended to you, you will have to open the case and find out what the watt/amp rating of your PSU (Power Supply Unit) is. That will be indicated on a sticker on the PSU itself (easiest way of getting that information)

P.S.: Read the sticky at the top of this section on how to ask this question. If I'm not on line, and you don't provide all the information that is required (as indicated in the sticky post) you may not get an answer.

P.P.S.: take a look at this thread :http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1736822/dell-opt... , to get a better understanding of what you are dealing with (form factor, PSU requirements, CPU etc..)
