I have a server going on one of my computers, the pc is currently on Wireless. But Windows keeps disconnecting me from my local network, and in order to fix it and connect to the network i have to use the repair option in Windows 7. I don't really have the option to make go Wired with this computer, thats why i have it on Wireless.

Network card:
Atheros AR9285 Wireless

I have already tried:

  • Updating Drivers
Deleted my Local Network from the Wireless card
Changed Channels for the Wireless via my router (Checked with inSSIDer)
Given the PC high priority via router
Moving the pc closer to router

Any ideas what might have gone wrong, and how to fix it?
Much appreciated!

How good is the signal strength on your wireless connection? If you aren't getting a strong enough signal, you could see connection problems like this that are caused by numerous things including the materials in your walls, interference from microwave ovens, radios, or cordless phones, or just the distance itself. I assume the reason that a wired connection isn't possible is distance, and if so I have a suggestion that will give you a wired connection without having to run cable all over the place.

I use a Powerline adapter, which sends an encrypted ethernet signal over your home's power lines (link below to some examples). It gives you a 100MB/s connection, and works just like a normal wired connection except that the CAT-5 connects as follows (arrows indicate CAT-5 cable):

Router -> Powerline Adapter 1 (plugs into power outlet) ----------(power wiring for the home)---------- Powerline Adapter 2 (plugs into power outlet) -> PC

This allows you to have a wired connection that is secure, but doesn't leave you with CAT-5 cable strung all over your home, however it will only work if each adapter is connected to a power outlet that is on the same breaker box (most homes only have 1, so this shouldn't be an issue).

I have the same wireless card in my laptop. the default driver was corrupting packets which caused tcp/ip to do a connection reset every few mins. You can run microsofts network monitor to see the cause or just look for a update to the atheros driver
