So I updated my system with a clean install of windows on an ssd where I have my display drivers for my Asus HD 7770. I'm having a problem where windows Aero will not turn on upon start up, however, if I restart my pc Aero will turn on every time. Again, if I choose shutdown then turn the pc back on, then areo will be disabled. It's only after I restart when Aero will turn back on....lol...so I have to restart my pc every time I turn it on or I have to never turn it off to have Aero effects :p

It's important to note that I never had this problem prior to installing the ssd drive. I've tried the Aero trouble shooting and I get: "troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem." I've tried Microsoft Fix it for Aero Effects and I get: "Install an Aero-compatible video card, the current video card cannot display Aero effects." Further it says: "Video card doesn't support required display settings", fix status: Not fixed.

I've tried beta drivers, two other drivers, i've tried updating from device manager, i've tried using another pci slot...i've got a 990-fx-ud3. Windows update has been updated prior to all of these updates, and I always ran the uninstall tool from amd for the drives before re installing.

Here is what is interesting: anytime i've ever upgraded drives for a video card, the screen always goes black for a short period before and you'll here the driver update sound, before the screen comes back up. Well, that never happens! My device manager does indeed say hd 7770 however and the WEI gives me a score of 7.5, and the fan is moving so I do think the card is still working....

Any ideas? Thanx in advance for the help!

Well, I was finally able to find a solution:

1. Start, type cmd, right click, Run as Administrator.
‪2. Type bcdedit /set useplatformclock true and press enter.
‪3. Type bcdedit /enum and press enter.
‪4. Verify that useplatformclock is on/true.
5. Type services into start search open it and scroll down to "desktop windows manager session manager" check that it is set to started, if not right click it and select start, or if it is already running click stop then click restart.
‪6. Shutdown the computer and turn back on, then test aero.

I hope this process helps others that are having this same issue!
