I purchased a laptop installed with Windows 7 a couple of years back, but upgraded to Windows 8 in the £25 offer and then to 8.1 last week. I now wish to revert to Windows 7 and I have the Windows.Old file, however 7 was pre-installed on my laptop, so I have no disk to boot from. my question is, how can I go back to Windows 7 without a disk? Thanks, Peter Hughes.

Look on the bottom of your laptop, you should have a product key sticker. Copies of Windows 7 can be downloaded from here

Select the appropriate version (most likely Home premium 64 bit) d/l and burn to DVD with disk burning software (use the option "burn image to disk"). Boot from it, format, install and use the product key from the sticker to activate

you might still use the recovery partition in your hard drive. check the manual to see which buttons to press during booting to access recovery procedure.

never forget to burn the recovery data into DVDs after buying new laptops. you never know when you will need it later.

Cheers! Now to backup my things onto my handy terrabyte ext. hard-drive. To boot, I assume you just stick the disk in then restart? Or do you have to manually select the disk then boot it from there?

It depends on the boot serttings (whether the BIOS is set to boot from the DVD first or HDD first) but if it doesn't boot right away just select it from the boot menu

I found the one that I need from the link you gave, but before I go ahead and go back to Win 7 from Win 8....... Do I still need to back up EVERYTHING!?!? What will be removed or deleted? Anything? Everything? Yes I had Win 7 before and am trying to go back to the same one with my product code, but didn't know if that mattered or not? :/  I'm nervous! I don't/can't lose my documents, pictures, etc.
Please help?! :/

When you format the drive to install Windows, everything is lost. Back it all up to a different drive!
