Hey there,

Looking to buy a new pre-built system - both are good value for money and here are the components in each:

1) Intel system
Motherboard: GA-Z87-D3H
GPU: GTX 760
CPU: i5-4670k @4.4 Ghz
RAM: 8gb 1600 mhz
Cooler: H80i
PSU: Corsair 600W CX

price: £870

2) AMD system
Motherboard: GA-990XA-UD3
GPU: 7950
CPU: FX-8350 @4.0 Ghz
RAM: 8gb 1600 mhz corsair vengence
Cooler: Xigmatek darknight nighthawk sd 1283
PSU: Corsair 650W TX modular

Price: £875

Will be primarilly playing bf4 - though is this optimized for amd 8 core?

What do you think is best for next gen gaming?

H80i > Xigmatek darknight nighthawk sd 1283
GTX 760 > 7950

even though the eight cores of the fx-8350 may be more beneficial - and the fact that bf4 can utilise 3 gb of GDDR5 on the 7950?

you would expect the gtx 760 to slot in above the 7950 boost? even when mantle arrives - this change anythign you think?

Tough question, in gaming performance the GTX760 and HD7950 are close with the 760 a little better. Looking at those builds the AMD build has Better motherboard and a Higher quality PSU. I think I would want to see the TX PSU in the Intel build.

AMD chips currently perform about 30% less per-clock than Intel chips. The AMD chip will use more power and generate more heat for any given task. The Xigmatek aircooler included with the 8350 system will also give you less overclocking thermal headroom versus the h80i/intel system.

I would most definitely go with the 4670k system. The 760, while having 1gb less memory in what you listed will use less power, depending on the cooler attached to it, may have more overclocking room and most likely run more quietly due to less power usage. It may be worth it to contact the system seller and see if you can get a version that includes 4gb instead of the stock 2gb on the video card.

And this is why people should just build their own computer instead of paying some company to do it for them and skimp on certain parts. You don't have to compromise when you put in the man hours.

this intel system is from aria.co.uk - the price of this particular system costs only £20 more than the individual components (on amazon). The components are good quality and for a noob like myself seems not too bad!

To answer your question about mantle, by the time mantle arrives, if it ever materializes into something more than a few developers take advantage of (there have been many proprietary hardware level interface proposals that didn't amount to anything substantial), the 7950, while now still an excellent card, will be outmoded and you'll be looking at another video card upgrade/purchase anyway. None of the upcoming AAA title games use Mantle yet so expect it to be a year or two out at the very minimum.

If you want to play BF4, get the recently released R9 280x. It's a tad faster than the 7970, and will incorporate AMD Mantle, which will optimize the hell outta BF4. My recommendation would be a i5 4670k + Sapphire R9 280x Toxic, it should play BF4 maxed out at 1080p.

It will definitely last your 4/5 years, especially with a decent overclock. PCIe 3.0 on the motherboard will keep you going along well for the same time, the CPU will easily outlast a GPU upgrade or two. Even overclocked core 2 quad chips can still play the most demanding games today pretty well paired with a strong GPU.

thanks for the input guys, i ahve contacted aria pc to see if i can swap in the r9/280x gpu for the current GTX 760. If they charge >£50 for this customization would you still go ahead with it? Thanks
