Hi everyone, I am keen to buy a new PC and I am trying to find a reasonable compromise between price (up to €1500 monitor included) and performance.
I plan to use the PC as a general purpose, with some photo editing and hopefully some amateur video editing.
It's my first PC so any suggestion welcome!
Here is the current plan:

honestly there isn't much of a difference between different ram bandwidth, i'd personally go with vengeance pro ram and overclock to 2133mhz

Get a 4670k rather than the 4670, so you can take advantage of that air cooler by overclocking. Overclocking gives you better overall performance especially noticeable when editing. What i can also say is allot smaller power supply is required. I would be comfortable running this with 430w. However feel free to ignore me and use a 550w or 600w power supply. This will give you plenty of upgradability.

want to overclock?
want to play games ?

for monitor you have to do some research, what the best for you would be.
Ips monitors has good image quality but for playing games its not so good.

Dear Marcopolo123,

Thanks a lot for your response,

I think I will try to OC it a bit, mostly out of curiosity and to see what improvement in performance I can get out of it.
I don't think I will pay videogames, mostly will be daily use, some photo and video edit, and will use it as the key Home Theatre PC, linking it via HDMI to my HT set.

Can you expand on why you mentioned the Xeon E3 vs the i5 4670k I had in mind? Would I see significant benefits?
I wasn't very keen in downgrading the MB, I know the Asus Pro is probably a bit an overshoot for the planned use, but I am keen to try and future proof it a bit. Any reason you were suggesting the Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3 apart from the CPU choice?

Thanks!

If you aren't playing any games you could do well with integrated graphics but I suggest you keep your graphics card just in case.

Guys, thanks all, I went with a i7 4670K as per Talal suggestion and 4+4GB of DD3 Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz as per Marcopolo123 suggestion.
Looking forward to assemble it all and I am sure I will be back here with some more questions.
thanks again, great community spirit!
