I have a Gateway DX4870-UB2B desktop computer.

Specs:
Intel Core i3 3240 @3.40GHz
Intel HD 2500 Graphics
6GB RAM
1TB Hard Drive
Cooler Master Extreme 500W Power Supply
Windows 8.1 64-bit

I bought my computer off of Bestbuy.com. I was going to put in a Nvidia Geforce Evga 8600gt 512mb graphic card in it but it wouldn't work. I would get a black screen and nothing else. Then I upgraded the power supply from a 300w to a 500w cooler master extreme. When I put in the graphics card my monitor is blank and my computer is on. If I unplug the monitor from the graphic card and into the motherboard the screen comes right back on.The fan on the graphcis card is spinnging like normal.**If I put the graphics card in another computer it works completely fine**.I think it might be my motherboards PCI Express 3.0x 16 slot. What should I do?

That's definitely motherboard issue. Try updating your bios that may solve the problem.

My BIOS Version/Date is American Megatrends Inc. P11-A4, 4/10/2013. I think it is up to date but I'm not sure.

there should be no issue of PCI E 3.0 Slot as all 2.0 cards are compatible with 3.0 slot and vise versa. Also there's not a problem with your graphics card as it's working in other computers. so either it's a problem with your motherboard or you're putting card in a wrong slot. can you tell me your mobo model.

hmm your motherboard looks fine. There shouldn't be any problem but have you tried putting any other gfx card in the PC and test if that runs fine? I think your PCI Slot has problem.

When I turn on my computer without the graphic card in it the computer make a beep then the monitor turns on. When the graphic card is in the computer there is no beep and the monitor stays off.

maybe you can try your friend's graphics card into your PC Just to make sure if PCI slot is working or not. Also testing a different card would give an idea that is there any problem with your PSU or not. So try this method.
