I was just sitting here at my computer and 'out of the blue' a voice came across the computer. It was a male voice and it said about three or four few lines. I can't remember them all but the last one said, "I'm the itch you want to scratch." As you can imagine, I am alarmed by this as I don't understand where this came from.

It crossed my mind that yesterday after clicking on a website link that offered a coupon code for a site was visiting and going to purchase from, I suddenly lost internet connection and three of the four lights on my modem disappeared. I was alarmed at this and immediately shut the computer down and restarted it.

We have Trend Micro on our Mac.

Does anyone have a comment about this strange occurrence? Thank you for any light you can shed on this

Most likely a pop up window from a website you are visiting. Does another tab or window open when this happens when you browse in Safari? It could be an ad on the website that you are visiting.

Wow! Thank you anti-painkilla for such a prompt reply to my question! Very much appreciated.

In regards to your comments ...... no there didn't seem to be a pop-up window from the website. A voice just began to speak 'out of the blue' without anything happening on the screen. That's the strange part since I was expecting something visual to accompany the voice when I heard the voice. I had a number of tabs open on the browser window so perhaps a voice came from one of the tabs I had open but I was not on that tab when the voice spoke.

Although I have Safari on my computer, I was using Google Chrome.

The other strange thing was that the voice (actually it was two different male voices, speaking one after the other) did not seem to be advertising anything. If they were advertising something it would then make some sort of sense. It sounded just like someone doing a prank since there were extra sound effects injected into the 'presentation' and the dialogue was a bit creepy.

As you can understand, it's rather disconcerting.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

You could get the AdBlock extension for chrome. This should help if it is an ad.

Click here to go to the chome store. This will also remove ads from webpages, keep that in mind if you use those ads.
