Asus P5W DH motherboard, 3 sata drives, 1 ide drive, Windows XP (fully updated)

When I boot up (or restart) the computer, everything works fine & accounted for. I normally put the computer into standby when i'm done. However, when I go to reuse the computer, the IDE drive is no longer listed.
I did a 'repair-reinstall' of XP and all the updates but the issue still exists.
Any ideas or suggestions (aside from removing the IDE drive) would be helpful.
Thanks!

If the motherboard is aging, replace the BIOS battery and if there's no improvement run Hard Disk Sentinel... depending on what HD condition the program reports you will know if it's starting to fail or not and if it reads OK, maybe the motherboard is causing the problem. Hard Disk Sentinel estimates how long in days the Hard Drive will keep working.

As example: I have an old IDE Seagate HD that the program reads at 22% Health and it's giving big problems in one computer with an old motherboard; it didn't recognize it before I replaced the battery and it does now but it doesn't boot it... but the same Hard Drive doesn't have a problem in a newer computer. The cause is obviously the Hard Drive but it's also the motherboard on the old computer. the Hard Drive obviously lives on borrowed time but according to the old computer it's already dead.

So, check/replace the battery and run Hard Disk Sentinel to make sure which is causing the problem; Hard Drive or Motherboard... or maybe just the BIOS battery is making it lose settings.
