I bought a HP Pavilion g6 with windows 8 pre installed a few months ago and for some reason the hard drive failed. So today I bought a new hard drive and as I couldn't get on with windows 8 (nor 8.1) I decided to install my copy of windows 7 instead. After installing windows 7 I updated everything via Windows Update then installed sims 3 that my girlfriend loves to play. However she just tried sims 3 and got an error -

Unable to start game. Device 0 cannot run this title. No supported graphics card detected. Please check your system hardware.

The laptop ran the sims 3 fine before so I know it meets the minimum requirements.

Any help appreciated.

go to HP :
http://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html

Put you Presario PN on the search field
Then look for you suitable VGA driver

Let`s hope this way you find only one VGA driver to download .....
Let`s hope that is the one you have

You can post you PN - i`l try to find it if you can`t !

I couldn't find VGA so I installed AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver and in Device Manager > Display Adapters it still displays Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. What exactly am I looking for? Thanks for your help.

The VGA driver would not work from the HP website for some reason (probably down to me), so I downloaded DriverPack Solution and it updated all my drivers for me. Laptop is working great again (especially since I don't have to use Windows 8), thank you for all your help.
