I was wondering if some of you fine people could help me. Recently upgraded from a 1.25GB GTX 570 to a 4GB GTX 770.

I tried playing Black Ops 2 on my machine & I'm getting similar if not worse fps on my new card than I was on my old. I've the exact same card as a friend who got his within days of mine & he is running is on slightly lesser machine & he is getting 180-200fps regardless of what he is doing in the game. Using the same settings, I find myself getting 80 fps on the move & anything upwards of about 110+ when stationary.

I've tried using Driver Sweeper & completely uninstalling, then reinstalling the drivers from disk then updating to the latest drivers.

Also tried removing my CPU overclock as I was told if the CPU was getting hotter than it should then it could be contributing to the problem.

Also tried lowering the resolution in game to 800x600, lowering field of view.. all of which provided almost identical fps regardless of what I've tried.

My system is:
Windows 7
ASUS P8P67
i5 2500k (currently on stock speeds)
Samsung 840 Series Pro 512gb SSD
8GB Kingston Hyper-X Genesis Duel DDR3 1600MHz
Corsair 650W TX Series PSU

I'm essentially a complete novice computer wise so while any help would be appreciated, please use small words so you don't confuse me. :)

higher quality = more gpu usage vs cpu

your first problem is you may have a memory bottleneck if youre only running one stick

that card should ahve no problems doing 200 fps in blops2

have your tried updating yopur bios and resetting all your settings? is your gpu overclocked at all?

Memory wise, I have 2 x 4gb sticks.

I've not tried updating my Bios as I've been told it's quite complicated & seeing as I'm a novice I didn't want to get too far ahead of myself seeing as I potentially could have messed putting in a simple graphics card up.

To my knowledge, no, the GPU isn't overclocked.. at least manually by me anyway. It's a MSI Twin Frozr Gaming 4GB card so unless it comes out of the box overclocked, then no.

Sorry if I'm sounding daft, but as I say.. I'm a novice. My knowledge on the subject is minimal.

Your 2500K has much more potential... OC that thing to at least 4GHz and I guarantee you'd get the desired FPS.

It was overclocked when I first tried Black Ops 2 a few days after install to 4.6GHz, however as I said, I restored it to stock settings as I'd been informed that if the CPU was getting hotter than say 65, it could be running un-efficiently. However even after doing so it had no effect on the FPS in game at all.

Updated Bios still with no luck, I did a map of Nuketown 24/7 & I was getting around 65 fps. On my 570, I was getting I'd say at the very least 90, however averaging around 100 fps.

Reinstalled my 570, re-did the drivers & in the same game, with the same settings, same map, same everything I'm comfortably getting anything upwards of about 110+, very rarely does it drop below this & if it does it's for a matter of milliseconds.

Could it be a defective card?

Have you tried using the latest R331 driver from Nvidia?

well that game is almost strictly gpu bound vs cpu. even with an overclock you shouldnt see much of a fps boost besides in crazy matches with alot of players.

Id contact them and see what they say about it?

one other thing is to check your psu voltage while gaming, I had my old psu start failing causing similar issues when under more strain even though it was only a month old

Just to follow up, I believe I've fixed it. I updated Bios, tried the 770 & still was recieving below psr fps, I reinstalled my 570 & completely removed the drivers using clean install & driver sweeper & reinstalling that cards drivers. I then tried the 570 & was getting better performance than before getting 110+ at all times rocketing up to about 170 or 180 at times.

I thought the 770 might have been defective but I reinstalled it one last time just to come to a conclusion. Did the same thing fresh install + driver sweeper & reinstalled. I left the settings that were in game & making my 570 perform well & like magic my fps rockets up to 180-200+ on map I was using to compare the 2. I then fully cranked up everything & fps doesn't even flinch.

So I surmise it was the update of Bios combined with the reinstallation of drivers that have solved the problem.. at least for now, won't know for certain until I game more closer to weekend.
