I'm after a second opinion on the matter: I am upgrading my PC, I regularly play high GPU stress games and a few games which have a medium/high stress on the CPU; I render videos from time to time and usually am multitasking on multi-monitor (but game on 1).

Current PC:
AMD-6100
AMD Radeon HD 7850
PSU/RAM/MB doesn't need to be changed (except MB if I go to Intel)

Currently I'm thinking of a 280x and an AMD-8350 because of mantle or an i5-4670K and OC'ing them with h100i (Which I have).

Price wise: Ideal: £550 , Max: £750-800

Remember too, if you replace your motherboard, you typically need to buy another copy of Windows (unless you bought a full Retail version).
I'd get the new graphics card, and see what kind of difference it makes. Then you'll need to go over benchmarks, cherry-picking the ones that apply to your programs and the way you run them. It sounds to me like the FX-8320/50 is probably the way to go, but the benchmarks most relevant to you may tell a different story. How much RAM do you have? If only 4GB, upgrade to 8GB. Also, what mobo do you have? You'd need to make sure it can handle a 125W CPU, especially if you intend to overclock it.

You would only need a new mobo is you got the i5. Typically the 8350 would also be the obvious upgrade, but a 6350 or 4350 are really just as good. The 4350 actually has a better ppc (performance per core). You defidentally need 8 gigs of ram and the video card is neccessary. I would also try the video card first because your CPU is actually decend if you OC it.

The FX-6100 was tried in a $1000 SBM build a few cycles back, and pretty much disappointed across the board. The newer FX-63x0 is a Piledriver part, not Bulldozer, and does a lot better.
To know whether you need more cores or simply better ones, you'd need to do things like check Task Manager when your system seems slow. If all cores are being maxed, then more will help. If only one or two are maxed, then you need better cores.
