When installing updates, my computer stalls on 18% complete and won't continue installing. It says these are critical updates and the computer isn't working properly with out it. Do I need a new computer? Or is there a way to solve this problem?

Solution
Before you try EonW's solution, possibly putting your computer at risk, install what updates will actually install, and then reboot the computer.

Most likely what's happening is that one update is looking for another one to already be installed, but since it's not there, is throwing up an error.

Sometimes the firewall/ antivirus can stop this happening - I used to find this with Comodo security. Check this first - disable for a short time( and yes, I wasn't happy about the risk either, but it worked.)
