This cpu is on newegg for 139.99 and I wanted to know if it was good. AMD A10-6800K Richland 4.1GHz (4.4GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 100W Quad-Core Desktop Processor - Black Edition AMD Radeon HD 8670D. Is the 8670D mean dual 8670's and will this processor work fine with my current gpu (7850). Just want to know if it will work well and install fine. I play skyrim often and some other games and wanted a better processor. The one I have now is amd phenom ii x4 945 at only 3.0 ghz. Will this new processor boost my computer alot especially in games like battle field, skyrim, GTA.

Solution
Yes, definitely replace that PSU. Raidmax might even be slightly worse than what HP uses. Overclocking tends to not be an option with an OEM system.

No, first off, that CPU won't fit in your motherboard. You notice how it says "Socket FM2"? Well every motherboard has a socket type, meaning that it can only fit CPUs with a certain pin configuration. The A10-6800k can only be put into a motherboard that uses an FM2 socket, and I can tell what your current motherboard is by looking at your current CPU. Your current CPU is an AM3 CPU, so your motherboard is obviously of an AM3 socket type. Thus, your motherboard will not accommodate an FM2 CPU.

It is a better CPU then your current CPU, but not by a huge amount.

Third, why would you spend extra money on an APU with integrated graphics when you already have a graphics card that outperforms it? The HD 8670D does not mean "dual 8670s". I'm not sure what it stands for, but "dual" is certainly not it. The HD 8670D is a somewhat weak graphics card. Of course, that should be obvious because it is integrated, and integrated graphics cards are almost always weaker than dedicated graphics cards. Your current HD 7850 is a mid-range GPU, while the HD 8670D is a much lower-end GPU.

If you want to replace your CPU, you must first buy a new motherboard. I recommend you buy an AM3+ motherboard (not to be confused with your current AM3 motherboard) and buy a much better CPU without integrated graphics from AMD, such as an FX-8320 (~$150, 8 core CPU, good performance) or if you want to stay a bit closer to the price range of the A10-6800k, then an FX-6300 (~$120, 8 core CPU, decent performance).

Probably not. You have an Phenom II X4 945 CPU. The Phenom II X4 945 uses an AM3 slot, and all of the FX series CPUs use an AM3+ slot (which is distinct from regular AM3). So it probably won't fit. However, I say probably because there is an exception to this.

AM3 CPUs can fit into either an AM3 or an AM3+ slot, however an AM3+ CPU cannot fit into anything except an AM3+ slot. This is one of these few exceptions that exist for CPU sockets. Chances are, you only have an AM3 socket motherboard, however there is a chance you have an AM3+ socket motherboard.

As logainofhades said, we cannot confirm which you socket type you have unless you can give us a motherboard model number or the model of your desktop (assuming your desktop is a prebuilt).

I'm not so sure about the naming scheme. For desktop APUs, the integrated graphics card has a "D" at the end of it which might stand for desktop. However, for laptop APUs, the integrated graphics actually have a "G" at the end of it. The only laptop graphics card that have an "M" at the end of it are dedicated GPUs that aren't part of APUs.

There were a select few AM3 boards that did receive bios support for AM3+. Some features of AM3+ CPU's won't function in such situations though.

well i have two desktops. One is a hp pavillion h8 -1214 with a 6100 processor and radeon 7450 tried to install 7850 in it but it didnt work just blank screen no DVI connection. Then I installed it in my HP Pavillion Elite HPE which came with a 5450 and Phenom II X4 945 processor and it worked. HP Pavilion Elite HPE-210y yea its am3 socket. what processor out there can i upgrade to that would be better than my current processor.

Oh makes sense didnt have any problems with the other one though every game plays fine. Even played battle field 4 beta with a 25-35 fps sometimes going down in tough situations and skyrim runs fine even though I feel like my processor is holding it back. Might buy a stronger power supply then.

o.o im not using hp psu im using raidmax 500 watt. After buying I did do some research on it and many people said raidmax was horrible. Might upgrade to a 650 corsair or something. Then hopefully it will work with my amd 6100 desktop.

eh makes sense bought it from newegg thought it was alright since it was bronze certified whatever that means. I am able to overclock my 6100 processor from 3.3 to 4.1 but the amd phenom is locked. I can also overclock the gpu but none of this is necessary if I can run everything I want 50-60 fps.
