Hello everyone,
this is my first post on this forum.

as the title says, i want to upgrade my current PC to a descent gaming pc.
my current config is as below:

Processor: Intel Core2 duo 2,2GHz

Motherboard: Intel (dont know exact model name) having-
2x RAM slots,
1 PCIe slot
2 PCI slots
4 SATA slots
1 IDE slot
Graphic card: onboard
RAM: 2GBx2
PSU: Tech-Com 450 W

I am planning to update only the CPU & graphic card.
from the below list:
CPU: i3 or i5

Graphic card:
AMD Radeon HD 7970 2GB
Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 4GB
Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 2GB
AMD Radeon HD 7870
ATI Radeon HD 7770 2 GB GDDR5

the reason i have added so many graphic cards, is that, i dont know the exact price of these.

So, my concern is of playing latest games, at least till gta 4/battlefield 4 @ max settings.
i have a budget of 20k-22k INR
not sure if my motherboard will support i3 & i5. if it dosn't then motherboard will be added to the buying list as well.

Please suggest me on these things.
waiting for replies.
thanks in advance.

Solution
You're going to have to buy a new motherboard, yes.

INR is indian Rupees, right? Look at flipkart; that's the biggest seller for you guys.

I suggest an i5 like the i5-3350p, an h77 motherboard, and the best graphics card you can afford - if you guys don't have the new nvidia / amd cards, I suggest the 7870 XT (tahiti LE) or the 7950.

However, you're also going to have to buy a better power supply. That one doesn't seem very reliable, and you'll need at least a 550w unit, preferably 650w.

Thanks for the reply,
I just came from a nearby computer shop. when i asked for the above things they said they sell their-set configurations only.

so for gaming pc he gave me following list of items-
AMD bulldozer FX 6100
Gigabyte 78 M/B
8GB Kingston DDR3 RAM
[strike]500GB Seagate HDD[/strike]
[strike]Liteon DVD Writer[/strike]
[strike]20" Samsung LED[/strike]
[strike]Logitech MM Keyboard + mouse[/strike]
2GB NVIDIA GT630 Graphics card
[strike]Xpro 2.1 Woofer Speakers[/strike]
[strike]Cooler Master ATX cabinet with 350W SMPS[/strike]

(all for 41500 INR)

but from above list, the stroked out things i wont be buying.
so my total gets to 27600 INR with 'Cooler Master ATX cabinet with 350W SMPS'

i checked out the gameplay videos of 2GB NVIDIA GT630 but they seemed choppy at ultra high.

and the GPUs suggested by DarkSable are expensive at least on flipkart.
Sapphire HD 7870 XT with Boost 2 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card - 20k
Asus AMD/ATI HD 7870 2 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card - 26k
need to checkout at other shops.

suggest opinion on above things pls

I... yeah, don't buy from that computer shop. Buy from an online website like flipkart, as you'll be able to get much better parts.

That "cabinet with 350w smps" especially scares me; that's not a large enough power supply, and most likely is so cheap that it will quickly fail or catch on fire.

Yes, graphics cards are particularly expensive in India; just try to find the best deal you can.

went to another shop nearby, these are the components and rates
RAM
Corsair DDR3 4 GB(1 x 4GB) @ 2725
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 8 GB @ 5950

Graphics Cards
Sapphire XFX HD 7790 2 GB DDR5 @13250
Sapphire AMD/ATI HD 7850 1GB GDDR5 @Price N/A
Asus AMD/ATI Radeon HD 7770 1GB GDDR5 @9250

Case
Cooler Master HAF 912 Combat Mid Tower Cabinet @6000
Cooler Master Elite 431 Plus Mid Tower Cabinet @4200

M/B + CPU
Intel i5-3330 with Gigabyte GA-Z77MX-D3H @20850

i won't be going with i5, feeling that i3 will be enough, because my current monitor is Sony 17" with max res of 1600x900 and 1280x1024 (@ maintained ratio)
the prices above are higher than the prices those will be available in cheaper stores. there will be a difference between 600 to 1000 INR in each item.

underlined items are what i am giving preference to.

finally bought it! And it went highly beyond the budget...
Decided to go for future proof parts than i previously thought.

Intel i5 4440
gygabyte b85
kingston hyperx blue 2x4gb RAM
corsair vx 550w (seasonic was not available)
dell s2240l 22'' monitor 1080p

case was also not available, so at this moment i brought cooler master cm force 500. After noticing that it has top mounted psu and only 1 stock fan also no toolless hdd mounts, i tried to change it but count get any of the cases i wanted (this was a big mistake)

and for gpu i went for asus direct cu 2 3gb. And its costlier than what I thought.
I got it for 26k from a wholeseller..

i5 4440 3.1 GHz - 12700
Asus R9 280x Direct CUII 3GB - 26000
Corsair VX 550W - 3500
Cooler master Cm Force 500 [only 1 rear-stock fan ] - 3300
Kingston HyperX Blue 2x4GB - 2x2900
Dell S2240L - 9500
Gygabyte B85 - 6500
Total damage = 67k
[all prices are in India Rupees]

*Got scolded by sister & mother for such high spending*

nfs rivals - 30 [locked to 30, no idea why]
mortal kombat 9 - 60
gta 4 - 80
aoe 3 - 250+
street fighter 4 - 60

all these games were on ultra graphics, 1080p with full antialising. vsync off.

impressed with Dell monitor also, just one bad thing, the reflections on dark scenes.

finally enjoying gaming @ ultra
