So I am going for mainstream gaming nothing too over the top med/ high settings on BF4, COD, skyrim, ETC. with a budget of $400 for the CPU, MOBO, GPU, and PSU

CPU Athlon X4 750k FM2

MOBO AsRock FM2 88X Extreme 6

RAM DDR3 1600 8gb (already have)

GPU not sure,
7790 or the R7-260X
i know its basically the same card but does the more expensive price justify the R7

PSU (recommendation please?) something around 50-60 USD

i already have the case, fans, ODD, etc.

what should i choose on this build or change?. your criticism is welcome :)

The Athlon X4 is powerful, however, it has lived its better days. Getting something like an i5 would be much better for gaming. Moreover, that you will be playing BF4 which is very CPU intensive. Luckily for you, I have managed to put up an i5 build for $400.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-3350P 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($172.98 @ SuperBiiz)

Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7790 1GB Video Card ($103.98 @ Newegg)

my most current build is amlost identical to this, same CPU and what not.
Anyways, I would go with the 7790, as they seem identical, and it is cheaper. Not to mention it is more widely used from what I can tell and therefore should have more support.
As for a PSU, how many watts do you need, and what kind of PSU do you want? the kind that come with plugs coming from the back, or the kind with pre-wired cords to connect to the PSU?

You may upgrade the PSU as you wish. However, your system will not utilize anything more than that so the extra PSU capacity will go to waste.

Goodluck! :)

ill likely go with what you suggested for the GPU and PSU but as for the i5 and Mobo, i am not too sure... ill think about it.. i know that the i5 destroys the athlon X4 but i dont want to skimp on the mobo. i am leaning towards the FM2...

if i went the i5 though, i would rather save up for a long time then buy the 4670k with nice mobo to go with it.

but anyways thank you very much!

True, this will be your long term rig, so go with what you feel is best, try not to be cheap, but just because it cost $500 doesn't make it any better than some of these $70, check all reviews and specs, then build around the mobo, don't pick your parts and THEN the mobo

I have that CM Elite 430 case. I just thought that I'd warn you that it has no USB 3.0 ports, only USB 2.0.

Good luck!
