Upgrade To GTX 460 v2. Best bang for the buck

Hi Everyone, I saw they lowered the price of the GTX 770 to $330 & the GTX 660 to $190, it made me think of upgrading my current video card (GTX 460 v2).

However the part I'm having a hard time with is which card would give me the best bang for the buck. The 3 types of cards I'm looking at are:

GTX 660 for around $180
GTX 760 for around $250
GTX 770 for around $320

While I can see there is significant improvement from the 460 to the 660, I'm trying to figure out if the extra $70 to the 760 would be worth it or the extra $140 to go to the GTX 770 (From the $180 cost for the 660).

Also it would need to run with my current hardware. Currently I'm mainly doing video editing, but was looking to start playing some games.

I should add that I've had better luck with Nvidia compared to AMD, which is why I only listed the 3 Nvidia cards

Thanks!!

My current Hardware:

Asrock Z77 Extreme4, Gen4
I7 2600K
2 256 GB SSD (Raid 0)
4 - Sata HD
1 Blu Ray Burner
27" Monitor @ 2560x1440
24" Monitor @ 1920x1080

OCZ ZT Series 650W Fully-Modular 80PLUS Bronze

Well if you are gaming at 2560x1440 then your REALLY need as much power as you can get.

So I would suggest at the very least go for a GTX770 / R9 280X.

At such a high resolution bang for your buck is a very difficult thing to get if you want decent framerates.

Honestly, if you are running at 2560 x 1440 you will need the newest/latest graphics cards to keep you performance. I did a little bit of research on the cards you wish to buy, and the GTX 760 looks pretty good. It offers GeForce Experience, GPU Boost 2.0, PhysX, and much more. Personally I would go with the GTX 760 but if you want to be a little bit more up to date and just that little bit faster you can go with the GTX 770.

PS - The GTX 770 May have more support, but all of these Graphics cards should have a great deal of support available.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks For The Responses. From what I can tell since I have a high resolution monitor, that I would need probably the 770 (at a minimum) to have fairly decent frame rates. would the frame rate be that much of a difference between (lets say) the 760 & 770? Also my original question but gaming at 1920x1080?

Right now I do know I want to get a new video card, but having a hard time If I want to spend $330 on one or not. I will say that I don't want to go higher then that as far as cost goes.

Can I ask how much the FPS would suffer between the two cards @ the higher res? Would it also suffer at the high res if the 770 card was used?

I'm now trying to determine if I was to start playing games to just use the 2nd monitor (1920x1080).

Also the other reason why I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to spend $330 compared to $250 is because I'm trying to decide if I want to get a different case also (currently have an Antec Three hundred), which if I got a new video card, would stick out into one of the hard drive slots (which I'm not using)

That depends on the game you play. 24% on average. But it will be a lot more in games like BF4 and Crysis3.

OK I saw that chart in another thread. I was trying to figure out what the 100% represented

Its a relative difference, in this chart the GTX760s performance presents hundred 100%.

So the GTX770 is 24% faster than the GTX760.

You can read the full review and compare the FPS for each game that was used.

Ok I've looked at the allowed spacing for video cards for my case & see it will allow for a card up to 11", so at this point I'll probably order the 770.

Does anybody think that there might be a black Friday special on one of these, or pretty much the lowered price & the 3 games is the discount?
