The repair shop put a generic win7 system in and I have been trying to recover from the recovery disc I made. I tried reboot by pressing F12 (and Alt F12) ,so it will boot from the dvd where I have the first recovery disc. But it boots back from the C drive, in addition when I try the recovery system it states hard drive not to factory default. I actually have the recovery discs I made and the ones i purchased from gateway. Please any suggestion? Thank you in advance.
Additionally I went to download from online my win 7 ultimate and states it needs to validate win 7
which asks for a serial code, I assumed it was in the recovery disc that the techs at the repair shop did not use.

If you press and hold F12 as soon as you see the Gateway splash-screen, you should see a boot device menu.
Use down arrow key to highlight "CD/DVD" drive (or it may show the drive make & model), then press <Enter>.
The PC should then boot from CD or DVD.

Note: you do not need to enter a Product Key and you do not need to activate Windows if you use "Factory Recovery" process.

But you do need a Product Key and you do need to activate Windows if you want to install a copy of Windows that you've downloaded as an ISO disc-image file from Microsoft.
