Hello.
I'm looking for an R9 280X graphics card which I'm going to cool using a waterblock.

The problem is, I want to use a full cover EKWB brand waterblock, and my ideal cards are the Sapphire Vapor-X or the Sapphire Toxic. Both R9 280X.

But EK doesnt have full cover blocks for them.

So I was thinking of getting the ASUS R9 280X DCII (direct cooling) but I'm not exactly sure about DC2. If I install the full cover waterblock, doesn't that remove the DC2 specialness of the card?

And are there any other relatively good 280Xs in this list?

Thanks!

you have to detach the entire cooler of the card anyway, so what does it matter what card? if theres a block for it then go for it.

If its compatible with the list then you should be fine, be sure that you know what you are doing.

Ps, going DC2 Asus...i really dont see the point in going watercooled on a R9-280x, go for a R9-290x watercooled! that would be beast.

Either that or spend the money on a 780 gtx

Woah woah wait.. If I think you're saying what I think you're saying.. Then I'm gonna smack myself.
You say 'what does it matter wha card'.. Meaning all R9 280Xs are the same??
Meaning the different brands like sapph xfx asus his msi etc just uses the same cardand the only difference is the cooler?

And haha I wish I could get the 290X.. But I'm not that rich haha I'm just watercooling fo the aesthetics!

Update* ..wait that can't be right. But does it mean all the compatible graphics cards on that compatibility list link are like the same when the cooler is taken off? Ahh confusion.

The board shapes can differ thats all, but take off the cooler and everything is the same.

A card is only clocked higher according to the performance of the cooler, if you dont want to overclock then you should check the highest clocked card on the list of compatibility.

I know Asus does allot of awesome custom PCB work like the Ares 2!.

But yeah...ussualy its Sameboard >> diffrent: cooler >> Diffrent: Clockspeed = = Diffrent brand (MSI etc).

These manufactureres get a the PCB design from a manufacturer like NVIDIA/AMD and they build upon that.

Does this really shock you? lol!

Haha ohhhhh! I get it now! Thank you! It shocks me because it was much simpler than I thought.
In that case, it seems lie the MSI 280X is also pretty good, plus a lot cheaper.
I guess I'll get that then. Any objections or tips or extra information? =)

Nope i guess thats about it! if its on the compatibility list then chose whatever you want. I wish you would overclock it with watercooling! and report the results! but hey cant always be lucky.

If you decide to go for air cooler anyways! i highly recommend vapor-x or DC2 :D

Anyways goodluck out there! my BTF4 copy is being shipped RIGHT now!

be sure to pick a solution! thanks!
